This event was organized to promote family diversity and enhance exchanges within the local community. The Yongsan-gu Family Center played a central role, with participation from the Itaewon Global Village Center, Yongmun-dong Community Center, Ichon Global Village Center, and Mari Migrant Women’s Shelter, among others.
The event was held on a Monday, which is the museum’s regular closing day, allowing for a relaxed environment. Before the exhibition tour, there was an introduction to the museum and its exhibitions to help attendees better understand what they would see. Afterwards, participants freely toured the “Permanent Exhibition of Antique Art,” the “Contemporary Art Collection Exhibition,” and Pierre Huyghe’s solo exhibition “Liminal.”
A performance themed on traditional Korean culture also took place. In the Leeum auditorium, traditional musician Shin Hyungsik and the traditional performing arts group “Itfor” presented a scene from “Heungboga” through pansori and samulnori.
For participants who were not familiar with Korean, a generative AI-based real-time multilingual text interpretation solution was used to provide live text interpretation services in eight languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Uzbek, and Bengali.
Participants shared their impressions, saying, “It felt like traveling to art museums around the world, as we could see everything from Korean traditional art to works by famous artists we had only heard of by name, and even fascinating pieces we saw for the first time, like the Pierre Huyghe exhibition, all in one place.”
Han Seongyu, director of the Yongsan-gu Family Center, stated, “As the proportion of multicultural families rises, social inclusiveness is increasingly important to help them settle stably in our society. The Leeum Museum of Art’s invitation event was a great opportunity for members to strengthen their sense of belonging and mutual understanding, and we are grateful for this occasion.”
Ryu Moonhyung, CEO of the Samsung Foundation of Culture, said, “The Leeum Museum of Art is continuously striving to enable people from diverse cultural backgrounds to communicate and empathize through art. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the representatives of all the organizations who participated in this event, and we will continue to do our best to remain an open museum that anyone can easily visit.”
Since 2022, the Leeum Museum of Art has held three regular invitation events each year so that various members of the local community can enjoy arts and culture. Including this event, the cumulative number of invitees is approximately 1,600.
