Jungma Bridge Station is a complex cultural space created by transforming industrial containers, donated free of charge by five companies affiliated with the Yeosu Gwangyang Port Development Council, into "art containers." It opened on August 9, 2023, and is currently operated around three distinctive buildings, allowing citizens to experience a variety of cultural activities.
Following free exhibitions and citizen rentals last year, this year has seen the addition of various planned programs such as "Saturday Picnic" and "Citizen Club," further strengthening the foundation of Gwangyang as a cultural city.
"Saturday Picnic" is a program designed to activate Jungma Bridge Station within Madong Ecological Park as a local cultural hub and to provide citizens with a relaxing cultural experience akin to a picnic in the city center.
At the two events held in May, a variety of content for all generations was offered, including traditional play experiences and performances of classical and fusion Korean music. The events received positive feedback for allowing visitors of all ages?from families to young people and seniors?to enjoy a leisurely cultural outing in the heart of the city.
The June "Saturday Picnic" will welcome citizens with an even more diverse lineup. The emotional performance group "Geudae-LOW," which spans classical and popular music, and the percussion performance team "Doodlesori," known for their energetic janggu and kkwaenggwari rhythms, will take the stage to present a blend of serene beauty and dynamic rhythm. In addition, various games and recreational activities will be provided, offering citizens a relaxing weekend in the city.
Park Sihoon, Director of the Gwangyang Cultural City Center, said, "Madong Reservoir Ecological Park is the perfect place to provide rest and vitality in daily life. Anyone can enjoy a perfect picnic with just light attire and simple snacks. We hope many citizens will participate."
Meanwhile, during the first half of this year, "Saturday Picnic" will be held at Jungma Bridge Station on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month until July 28. Citizens wishing to participate can pre-register through the official Instagram of the Gwangyang Cultural City Center, and those who participate after pre-registering will receive a small commemorative gift.
