Damyang County, located in South Jeolla Province and led by Governor Jung Chulwon, announced on June 17 that it recently held a Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee meeting for the first half of the year to discuss ways to activate the youth safety net.
During the meeting, participants reviewed practical measures for connecting support and protection services for at-risk youth, and established a customized support system that takes into account individual living environments and emotional circumstances through case-by-case deliberation for those eligible for special assistance.
Other agenda items discussed included an inspection of the current status of the youth safety net, strengthening collaboration among essential partner organizations, and linking out-of-school youth with career and employment opportunities. The attendees agreed to further strengthen the roles of each institution to ensure that at-risk youth in the region are not marginalized.
An official from the county stated, "Approximately 3% of youth in our region are facing crisis situations such as media overdependence, depression, emotional instability, and delinquency, and there are also many high-risk youth, making it necessary to operate a more sophisticated safety net." The official added, "We will actively incorporate the suggestions made at this meeting to help at-risk youth grow safely within the community."
