The United States Forces Korea (USFK) announced that it has raised its Force Protection Condition (FPCON) by one level, from Alpha to Bravo. This measure was taken in accordance with the directive from its higher command, the Indo-Pacific Command.
The U.S. military's Force Protection Condition is divided into a total of five levels depending on the degree of terrorist threat: Normal, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. The Bravo level is implemented when the threat of terrorist activity is predictable and has increased.
Previously, the Indo-Pacific Command, which is the higher command of the USFK, announced in a press release on June 14 that it had raised the force protection condition for all facilities within its area of responsibility from Alpha to Bravo. The Indo-Pacific Command stated, "There is currently no specific threat to the region, but the overall heightened alert reflects the Department of Defense's security protocols."
Although the Indo-Pacific Command did not specify the exact reason for the upgrade, there is speculation that it may be related to the recent conflict between Israel and Iran.
