Improved Scores in Labor, Human Rights, and Ethics Beyond Environmental Performance
HMM announced on the 17th that it has received the 'Platinum' rating?awarded only to the top 1%?in the EcoVadis environmental, social, and governance (ESG) assessment for the second consecutive year.
EcoVadis, based in France, evaluates the ESG performance of more than 100,000 global companies annually. The assessment covers four categories: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainability. Based on the results, companies are awarded Platinum (top 1%), Gold (top 5%), Silver (top 15%), or Bronze (top 35%) ratings. Among these, the Platinum rating is given only to companies that effectively manage ESG risks.
The EcoVadis ESG rating is used as an important criterion for global companies in supply chain management and partner selection. Financial institutions also use it as a key indicator when assessing a company's non-financial risks.
An HMM official stated, "This year, in addition to our traditional strength in the environmental sector, we also received high scores in the areas of labor and human rights, as well as ethics," adding, "Efforts such as obtaining family-friendly certification, enhancing board diversity, and conducting supply chain due diligence have led to these positive results."
Meanwhile, last month, HMM was also ranked as the number one global shipping company for the second consecutive time by Sustainalytics, a global ESG rating agency.
