Opening Ceremony for the Emergency Regional Economy Situation Room Held on the 17th
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has decided to operate an "Emergency Regional Economy Situation Room" to align with the "Emergency Economic Monitoring Task Force" launched under the Lee Jaemyung administration. The aim is to support the administration’s emphasis on revitalizing the regional economy through cooperation with local governments.
According to the ministry on June 17, the situation room will be composed of the Local Finance Team, Local Tax System Team, and Regional Economy Team. The head of the situation room will be the Director General for Local Finance and Economy at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The situation room plans to analyze the economic conditions of each local government and provide support to ensure swift execution of local finances. In addition, it will address a wide range of regional economic issues, including local price management and the execution of supplementary budgets (additional revised budget proposals).
To achieve this, a "Regional Economy Dashboard" will be installed to continuously monitor the economic status of local governments. Furthermore, the situation room will serve as a communication channel connecting the central and local governments by promptly disseminating and sharing national policies related to the livelihood economy with local governments.
In addition, regular meetings of the directors of planning and coordination offices from cities and provinces will be held to gather difficulties and suggestions from local governments and support their resolution through government consultative bodies.
Local governments also plan to establish "city/provincial situation rooms," with the directors of planning and coordination offices serving as heads, to ensure swift cooperation.
Ko Kidong, Acting Minister of the Interior and Safety, stated, "As difficulties in the livelihood economy persist due to the recent slowdown in domestic demand and high inflation, we must mobilize all possible means to restore people’s livelihoods as quickly as possible." He added, "Please work to continuously assess the regional economic situation and convey voices from the field so that no signals from the local level are missed, through close cooperation with local governments."
