3% Fee on Sales, 2% for Busan-based Companies
First Nationwide Use: Hiocoffee Cup Holders Produced
Busan SMEs and Small Business Owners Continue Free Use
Are you familiar with Busan City's character, Boogie?
Busan City has opened the copyright of its public character, Boogie, to businesses nationwide. Companies can use it by paying a small fee. Previously, only small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners in the Busan area were allowed to use Boogie, but now, anyone can use it regardless of location, as long as they complete a simple procedure.
The city explained that this decision was made to increase Boogie's utilization and raise its national recognition. The move also reflects the steady stream of inquiries from companies outside Busan and from local companies of medium size or larger.
The first official case of nationwide use is with the takeout coffee brand Hiocoffee. Hiocoffee has produced cup holders featuring Boogie and is distributing them at stores across the country. The company stated, "Boogie's cute and friendly image will create a new brand experience."
Businesses outside Busan can use Boogie by paying a fee. The fee is 3% of sales, while Busan-based companies receive a discounted rate of 2%. Small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners in Busan will continue to be able to use Boogie for free, and applications for free use will be accepted throughout November.
Park Kwangmyung, the city's spokesperson, said, "As interest in public character copyrights grows, we will continue to pursue various collaborations to make Boogie more familiar nationwide."
