Busan National University Selected as Final Participant in Ministry of Education's "Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Talent Cultivation Project"

Leading Convergence Education Based on Humanities and Social Sciences in the Digital Transformation Era

The College of Humanities at Busan National University (President Choi Jaewon) has been selected as a new member university for the "2025 Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Talent Cultivation Project (HUSS)" organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. Through participation in this project, Busan National University plans to accelerate the cultivation of convergence-type talent suited to the digital era.

This project is structured as a consortium led by Chonnam National University, with five universities participating, including Busan National University, Kongju National University, Kwangwoon University, and Hongik University. The theme of the project is "Coexistence of Humanity and the Digital Economy." The consortium will receive approximately 3 billion KRW in government funding annually for three years from 2025 to 2027 and will develop and operate convergence curricula centered on the humanities and social sciences.

Through this project, Busan National University plans to take the lead in developing convergence-oriented curricula that combine digital technology and humanities and social science insights; operating joint courses and activating extracurricular programs among universities; strengthening practical education focused on camps and internships; and carrying out field-oriented convergence education models such as community problem-solving projects.

Kim Imsuk, Dean of the College of Humanities at Busan National University and Head of the HUSS Project Group (Professor of Japanese Language and Literature), stated, "Being selected for this project is an important achievement that aligns with the purpose of establishing the Digital Humanities Center, which was newly created this year," and added, "We will do our utmost to cultivate human-centered creative talent required in the era of AI and digital transformation."

Previously, in March of this year, Busan National University established the "Digital Humanities Center" within the College of Humanities and began building a humanities-based foundation to respond to the era of digital transformation.

A representative from Busan National University stated, "With participation in this project as an opportunity, we will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the Ministry of Education's policy of nurturing convergence talent capable of solving social problems by innovating curricula that break down barriers between majors and strengthening community-based problem-solving capabilities."
