Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine's Kangbuk Samsung Hospital recently announced on June 17 that it has established an integrated medical big data platform called "S-CUBE" (SMC Clinical Unified Big-data Engine) and opened a data collaboration space named "Data Open Lab."
"S-CUBE," developed by Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, is an integrated medical big data platform based on a private cloud that enables the analysis of the hospital's clinical information and the health screening data from its health examination center. In particular, it also stores a large-scale health screening cohort database based on 300,000 examinees per year, making it possible to develop disease prediction models and AI through long-term follow-up observation, as well as to provide personalized health management.
Additionally, through the "Data Open Lab" established alongside S-CUBE, the hospital plans to further strengthen its collaborative system between its medical and healthcare experts and external organizations with data needs.
Researchers residing in the Data Open Lab can use S-CUBE within the hospital, receive assistance with IRB (Institutional Review Board) and DRB (Data Review Board) procedures, and access ongoing consulting from data experts. The hospital also plans to support healthcare R&D through collaboration with its dedicated digital healthcare department and by matching internal researchers.
Shin Hyuncheol, President of Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, stated, "The launch of S-CUBE and Data Open Lab will enhance the use of medical big data and AI, accelerating our transition into a smart hospital. We will also continue to pursue practical partnerships with various organizations to promote mutual development."
Meanwhile, last year Kangbuk Samsung Hospital established the Future Healthcare Headquarters and, based on its diverse experience and expertise in utilizing medical data, mobile worker health management, and telemedicine consultations for overseas Koreans, is leading innovation in digital healthcare and the future medical industry by providing AI-based healthcare services, developing disease prediction and automated intervention models, and conducting major R&D projects.
