President Lee expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister Albanese's congratulations on his inauguration as president and congratulated the prime minister on his victory in last month's general election and the launch of his second cabinet. On June 4, Prime Minister Albanese posted a message on social media congratulating President Lee on his election and expressing his hope that the two countries, as comprehensive strategic partners, would strengthen trade and investment and closely cooperate to promote stability and prosperity in the region.

President Lee also noted that Australia is an allied nation that participated in the Korean War, and that today, Korea and Australia are cooperating as comprehensive strategic partners for the stability and prosperity of both the region and the international community.

In response, Prime Minister Albanese said he was pleased to meet and have a conversation in person following their phone call on the 12th. He stated that the two countries are actively cooperating in various fields, including defense and the defense industry, as well as supply chains encompassing clean energy and critical minerals, based on longstanding trust and solidarity. He also mentioned that both sides should continue to further strengthen this cooperation in the future.

The two leaders also agreed to continue to strengthen communication and cooperation to achieve substantial progress toward peace on the Korean Peninsula and the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue. As founding members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), they also agreed to actively cooperate for the successful hosting of the APEC Summit in October.
