Housing Improvements for National Merit Recipients
"A Warm Change Created by the Private and Public Sectors"
The Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office (Director Namil Lee) and the Busan Chapter of the Korea Housing Builders Association (Chairman Jaebok Park) have joined forces to improve the residential environments of national merit recipients.
The "2025 Housing Condition Improvement Project for National Merit Recipients" opening ceremony was held on the 16th at the home of Mr. Lee, a national merit recipient, in Haeundae-gu. The event drew attention as an exemplary case of public-private partnership in veterans affairs, honoring those who have served the nation.

This project is a private-sector-led veterans support program in which member companies of the Busan Chapter of the Korea Housing Builders Association provide full funding for the renovation of aging homes. This year, three construction companies are participating: Jiwon Holdings (Chairman Jaebok Park), Seokhong General Construction (Chairman Sunpyo Hong), and Sungwoo Core (Chairman Kyungmin Lee).
At the opening ceremony, a renovated home was unveiled, showcasing major improvements such as window replacements, wallpapering and flooring, and rooftop waterproofing, all coordinated by Jiwon Holdings.
Mr. Lee, the beneficiary and national merit recipient, expressed his gratitude, saying, "My house used to be very cold, and I was worried because it leaked when it rained, but now I feel I can live here with peace of mind this year."
Namil Lee, Director of the Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office, stated, "Veterans affairs is not something the government can handle alone. This project, in which leading local companies voluntarily participated, is a great example of realizing the value of 'veterans affairs in everyday life.'"
Jaebok Park, Chairman of the Busan Chapter of the Korea Housing Builders Association, remarked, "We are actually the ones who are grateful to be able to make the homes of national merit recipients warmer and safer. We will continue to engage in veterans support activities from the private sector going forward."
The Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office plans to continue expanding various public-private partnership models centered on the "Veterans Dream for All" initiative. Through these efforts, the office aims to create an environment where national merit recipients and their families are respected within the local community and can tangibly experience veterans support in their daily lives.
