Culture Ministry Invites Content Companies to Use 60m-Long LED Virtual Studio

Applications Accepted on the KOCCA Website Until July 16
Support for Content Production at Studio Cube's 'Virtual Studio' in Daejeon

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 17th that, together with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), it will invite and select companies to produce content at the 'Virtual Studio' of Studio Cube in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, through the KOCCA website until July 16, providing support to the selected companies.

Studio Cube is a public filming studio operated by KOCCA. It is equipped with medium and large studios, a water and marine complex filming site, outdoor filming locations, and an art center. Productions such as 'Squid Game Seasons 1-3,' 'Mr. Sunshine,' and 'Sweet Home' have been filmed here.

The 'Support for Content Production Using Virtual Production' project is designed to support filming at the nation's largest virtual studio (60 meters in LED length and 8 meters in height), which is scheduled to open at the end of August. The 'Virtual Studio' is a cutting-edge production system that combines real filming locations with virtual backgrounds using a large LED screen and real-time 3D graphics technology. Virtual backgrounds are implemented on the LED wall, and the display responds to camera movements, allowing for the immediate filming of immersive and three-dimensional scenes on site.

This call for applications is open to production companies of dramas, films, and other works that, as of the announcement date, have plans for virtual production filming. At least three companies will be selected, and each company will be supported in producing one work. The selected companies will be provided with ▲ access to the virtual studio facilities, ▲ related equipment such as the LED wall and media server for virtual production filming, and ▲ professional technical personnel.

Once the virtual studio is completed, Studio Cube will be equipped as a multipurpose studio capable of general set, water, and virtual (virtual) filming. It is expected to play a central role as a creative and distribution hub for K-content in the future. Production companies will be able to drastically reduce the costs and time required for overseas location filming and post-production by utilizing these state-of-the-art facilities.

Lim Seonghwan, Director General of the Media Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "The establishment of the virtual studio and support for virtual production will enhance the advanced technology utilization capabilities of broadcasting and video content companies and contribute to the production of high-quality content for entry into the global market." He added, "Going forward, the Ministry will continue to gather feedback from the field to provide an environment optimized for virtual production."
