Gyeonggi Province Imposes 442.4 Billion Won in Automobile Taxes for First Half of the Year

Gyeonggi Province announced on June 17 that it has imposed automobile taxes totaling 442.4 billion won on 4.3 million cases for the first half of this year.

This amount represents an increase of 10.2 billion won (2.37%) compared to the same period last year. The rise is due to a 1.51% increase in the number of registered vehicles in the province, as well as a decrease in annual lump-sum tax declarations.

The regions with the highest automobile tax assessments are Hwaseong (40.1 billion won), Suwon (37.4 billion won), and Yongin (35.5 billion won), in that order.

Automobile tax is levied twice a year, based on vehicle ownership as of June 1 and December 1. The first installment for this year covers taxes for vehicle ownership from January 1 to June 30, 2025.

The payment deadline is June 30. After this date, a 3% late payment penalty will be charged. Payment can be made through all financial institutions nationwide, as well as via Wetax, Internet Giro, virtual accounts, and automated devices (CD/ATM), among various other methods.

If you use the local tax payment account (electronic payment number) indicated on the bill, the transfer fee will be waived. In addition, those who apply for electronic billing through a simple payment app can also receive a tax deduction benefit.

If you pay the second installment of the automobile tax (for July to December) in advance by June 30 through Wetax or your local city or county tax office, a 2.5% discount will be applied.

Ryu Youngyong, head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Taxation Division, stated, "Local taxes are a key financial resource for the development of Gyeonggi Province and the improvement of residents' welfare," and urged, "Please make your payments within the deadline to avoid late payment penalties or other disadvantages resulting from delinquency."
