Reflecting Resident Representatives' Opinions in Selecting Bundang Reconstruction Projects
Seongnam City Reviewing Implementation of "Proposal-Based Method"
Survey of General Residents to Be Conducted in June to Gather Broader Opinions
On June 16, Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced that, regarding the selection method for reconstruction and maintenance projects in the Bundang area in 2025, it is preparing administrative procedures with a focus on prioritizing the "proposal-based method" after gathering opinions from resident representatives and experts.
During May, Seongnam City held a total of five meetings at Seongnam City Hall and Bundang District Office, where it collected feedback from various resident groups, including local apartment associations, resident representatives from pilot project application areas, resident representatives from special maintenance planned areas, and advisory committee members (private sector experts) from the redevelopment and reconstruction support team. As a result, it was found that the "proposal-based method" was relatively more preferred.
The proposal-based method received mainly positive feedback regarding resident autonomy and speed, while some concerns were raised that the public contest method could lead to excessive competition and conflicts among residents.
Accordingly, Seongnam City stated that it is setting the "proposal-based method" as the primary option for the 2025 maintenance project selection and is preparing the related administrative procedures.
However, the city plans to conduct a survey of all Bundang residents in June to gather broader opinions on the selection method for maintenance projects and to enhance the legitimacy and acceptability of policy decisions by faithfully reflecting the diverse voices of residents.
A Seongnam City official stated, "Going forward, we will continue to prioritize resident participation, acceptability, and transparency as the core values of the reconstruction and maintenance projects, and we will do our utmost to pursue sustainable policies that reflect local conditions and citizen opinions."
