President Lee Jae Myung departed for Canada on the 16th to participate in the Group of Seven (G7) summit.


At approximately 4:30 p.m. on this day, President Lee boarded Air Force One bound for Canada at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, accompanied by First Lady Kim Hye Kyung. This marks his first overseas trip, coming just 12 days after his inauguration.


Before boarding, President Lee shook hands with Kang Hoon Sik, Chief of Staff to the Presidential Office; Kim Byung Ki, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea; Woo Sang Ho, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the Presidential Office; and Tamara Mawhinney, Canadian Ambassador to Korea, who were at the airport to see him off.


This visit will take place over three days starting from the 16th, local time. President Lee is attending at the invitation of Canada, the host country of the G7 summit, as the leader of an observer nation. First Lady Kim will participate in official events separately arranged by the hosts.


In a briefing, Kang Yoo Jung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated, "Through this opportunity, President Lee will build rapport with the leaders of various countries and lay the groundwork for tangible results on key issues, including trade matters. In particular, he will highlight to the world the greatness of our people, who have overcome martial law and rebellion, as well as the strength of K-democracy."
