An Average of About 54 Cases Per Day...
Utilizing TrueBeam and Halcyon
Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital announced on the 16th that the cumulative number of treatments performed using the radiation cancer treatment devices 'TrueBeam' and 'Halcyon', which were introduced with the opening of the new hospital on May 7, surpassed 2,000 cases as of June 12.
This figure was reached in approximately 37 days after the opening, meaning that an average of about 54 radiation treatments were conducted per day.
TrueBeam is an X-ray linear accelerator that enables precise adjustment of the radiation field, allowing radiation to be concentrated only on the tumor area.
So far, the most frequently treated cancer type has been lung cancer (155 cases, 19%), followed by head and neck cancer with 148 cases (18%), rectal cancer with 130 cases (16%), liver cancer with 110 cases (13%), and other cancers with 212 cases (25%). In addition, there have been 75 cases (9%) of brain tumor treatments.
Halcyon is a device that increases treatment accuracy by distinguishing between tumors and normal tissue using real-time imaging of the patient's internal structures. Since it allows treatment without the need for separate body markings, it is mainly used for gynecological cancers.
To date, breast cancer treatments have accounted for 589 cases (49%), followed by prostate cancer with 333 cases (28%), uterine cancer with 85 cases (7%), and other cancers with 193 cases (16%).
Hospital Director Lee Moonsu stated, "Since the opening of the new hospital, radiation therapy has been carried out stably," and added, "We will continue to strive to provide appropriate treatments to a wide range of patients in need."
Meanwhile, the new hospital was built right next to the existing hospital, with 15 floors above ground, 5 basement levels, and a capacity of 1,000 beds. The site covers 45,300 square meters, with a total floor area of 136,192 square meters, parking for 1,039 vehicles, and a rooftop helipad for emergency patient transport.
