From June 17 to 19, Samsung Electronics is holding a global strategy meeting attended by overseas subsidiary heads and key executives to review its business strategy for the second half of the year. This regular meeting is held twice a year, and this session will focus on sales strategies for new products such as foldable smartphones and regional marketing plans.
This meeting will proceed in the order of the MX (Mobile eXperience) Division, CE (Consumer Electronics) Division, and DS (Device Solutions) Division. Key executives such as Noh Taemoon, acting head of the DX Division (President), and Jeon Younghyun, head of the DS Division (Vice Chairman), will be in attendance. Regional subsidiary heads and resident employees will report on their performance and coordinate sales strategies for the second half of the year. According to Samsung Electronics, this meeting is a working-level session to share global sales strategies and establish measures to achieve performance targets.
One of the main topics of the meeting is the upcoming 'Galaxy Unpacked' event to be held in New York, USA, in July. Samsung Electronics plans to unveil its strategic smartphones for the second half of the year, including the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, at this event. Prior to that, the company is expected to coordinate regional launch schedules and marketing strategies during this meeting.
An industry official stated, "The global strategy meeting is held right before the launch of new products to adjust demand forecasts and sales targets for each region," adding, "This time as well, marketing directions highlighting the AI features of the new foldable models will be a key agenda item."
The CE Division will focus on sales strategies for new AI-powered home appliances. The discussion will center on expanding the market for premium product lines such as the Bespoke AI refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, and robot vacuum cleaner, all launched this year. In the visual display segment, the likely strategy is to concentrate the rollout of new AI-equipped TVs in the global premium market.
For the DS Division, production plans and supply strategies to respond to increased demand for AI memory semiconductors, such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM), are expected to be key agenda items. As Samsung Electronics has recently lost market share to competitors in the global semiconductor market, there is an urgent need to establish strategies for performance improvement in the second half of the year.
This meeting is expected to serve as a comprehensive review of response strategies to various external factors, including the global economic slowdown, weakening consumer sentiment, geopolitical risks, exchange rate fluctuations, and uncertainty in the semiconductor market. Although Samsung Electronics achieved an all-time high consolidated revenue of 79.14 trillion won in the first quarter of this year, the company is strengthening regional sales strategies and supply chain reviews to defend its performance in the second half.
A company official stated, "This is a regular global sales strategy review meeting held twice a year," adding, "The purpose is to maximize short-term revenue and establish customized strategies for each market, while discussions on future businesses are handled by separate organizations and meetings."
The meeting is being held behind closed doors, and Chairman Lee Jae-yong of Samsung Electronics is reportedly not attending in person but will be briefed on the outcomes through the reporting system.
