For 80 Seniors
Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul announced on June 16 that it operated the "Jang Gi-ryeo Free Clinic" together with the Blue Cross Medical Volunteer Group in the auditorium on the second floor of the district office from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on June 15.

This event was organized to provide health consultations and treatment to seniors in need of medical support and to promote the value of sharing. The Blue Cross Medical Volunteer Group of the Seongsan Jang Gi-ryeo Memorial Association was established in 1997 to carry on the legacy of the late Dr. Jang Gi-ryeo. The operation of this clinic is especially meaningful as it marks the first collaborative activity with Dongdaemun-gu.
On this day, 12 professional medical staff and 20 volunteers participated, providing a variety of medical services to 80 seniors who were recruited through the Dongdaemun-gu branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association.
Lee Pilhyung, mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Kim Jinkyung, head of the Dongdaemun-gu branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, and Jang Yeogu, head of the Blue Cross Medical Volunteer Group, attended the event and delivered welcoming remarks. For the following four hours, they conducted medical consultations and volunteer activities. Specialists in internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, dentistry, and ophthalmology provided health consultations, ultrasound diagnostics, physical therapy, medication, and health education.
Lee Pilhyung, mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "I am deeply grateful to the Blue Cross Medical Volunteer Group for creating an opportunity that provides practical help to our seniors," adding, "We will continue to work harder so that seniors can enjoy healthier and more vibrant lives."
The Blue Cross Medical Volunteer Group has been consistently providing free medical services not only to the homeless, foreign workers, and residents of rural and fishing villages in Korea, but also in medically underserved areas overseas such as Cambodia and Laos.
This year, the group was selected for Dongdaemun-gu's "Social Order Establishment" public contest project and plans to continue actively supporting medical services for local seniors in cooperation with the district.
