On June 16, Pyeongtaek Mayor Jung Jangsun held a press briefing and announced that "Annie Wright Schools" had been selected as the final corporation for the establishment and operation of Pyeongtaek International School.
Pyeongtaek International School will be the first international school established in the Seoul and Gyeonggi region. It will operate as an integrated K-12 school with a total capacity of 2,000 students, covering kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school. The school is planned to be built on a 66,000-square-meter site within the Edu Town of Godeok International New City.
Previously, the Pyeongtaek City selection committee evaluated four schools that submitted resolutions on June 13 to select the corporation for the establishment and operation of Pyeongtaek International School. The committee focused on the parent school's willingness to establish a branch campus, feasibility, and reputation.
Annie Wright School is a private institution in Washington State, United States, with a 141-year tradition. It was ranked first among private K-12 schools in Washington State by the U.S. education evaluation platform "Niche," and was also named among the "Top 5% STEM High Schools" by Newsweek. The city explained that more than 30% of its graduates are admitted to world-renowned universities ranked in the global top 100, such as Stanford, Princeton, MIT, and Brown.
The city placed importance on the parent school's willingness to establish a branch campus during the selection process. Annie Wright School reportedly accepted all of Pyeongtaek City's requirements during individual negotiations, including giving priority admission to local students.
Mayor Jung Jangsun stated, "With the establishment of Pyeongtaek International School and the groundbreaking of KAIST scheduled for next year, the educational standards of our city will be greatly enhanced, befitting our reputation as an international city."
