The Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs (Director: Lee Namil) conducted the "80th Anniversary of Liberation Korean Independence Expedition - Journey Toward the Light" program in collaboration with the social enterprise Chorokbaenang, as part of efforts to foster patriotism and provide historical education experiences at sites of national significance, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation.
This program, held on June 14 under the theme "Walking the Path of Korean Independence," brought together 35 elementary school students from the Busan area. The students visited key memorial sites related to the independence movement in Busan, including Busanjin Ilsin Girls' School and the National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation, where they experienced and reflected on the historical significance of these locations.
On this day, the students reenacted the March 1st Movement at Busanjin Ilsin Girls' School, the first educational institution for women in Busan. At the National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation, they learned about the painful history of forced mobilization through explanations provided by professional guides and reflected on their gratitude toward independence activists.
Additionally, a special session was arranged for students to create mood lamps inspired by memorial sites, offering them a creative and unique way to engage with history.
A representative from the Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs stated, "We hope that through this experience, young students will be able to directly connect with sites of national merit and enhance their historical sensitivity. We plan to continue expanding educational programs utilizing sites of national significance in the future."
The Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs is continuously promoting historical experience education through visits to memorial sites and locations of national merit, and is leading efforts to foster correct historical awareness and patriotism by conducting the "Domestic Exploration of Sites of National Merit" program for students every year.
