Four Dong-A University Disaster Management Graduates and Professor Lee Donggyu Donate 10 Million Won to Development Fund

Dong-A University (President Lee Haewoo) announced on the 16th that four graduates of the Graduate School's Department of Disaster Management and Professor Lee Donggyu have donated 10 million won to the university's development fund.

This donation is drawing attention as it goes beyond simple support, being promoted as part of efforts to establish a foundation for the department's independence and to strengthen its competitiveness through structural improvement.

The 10 million won donation was made up of 4 million won contributed by Dr. Park Chulwoo, Dr. Bae Jinmo, Master Baek Seungchang, and Master Choi Giwon, who graduated from the Department of Disaster Management in February this year, and an additional 6 million won provided by Professor Lee Donggyu from the commercialization profits of patented disaster technologies and royalties from his publications.

Dr. Bae Jinmo and Dr. Park Chulwoo said, "We wanted to contribute to the independence of the department that served as the foundation for our growth," and added, "We are grateful for the support we received and want to encourage the growth of our juniors."

Master Baek Seungchang and Master Choi Giwon stated, "We participated to help create a virtuous cycle in which graduates give back to the department," and continued, "We will continue to pursue academic work and practice the intent of this donation."

Professor Lee Donggyu emphasized, "A donation culture led by members is the true competitiveness of the Department of Disaster Management," and added, "This contribution will serve as a signal for establishing an independent system for the department."

The department's donation culture began with Professor Lee Donggyu's first donation of 2 million won in royalties from his publication in 2020, continued with a 10 million won donation in 2021 from the participation of 26 graduate students, and was followed by a 10 million won pledge in 2024 by Dr. Kim Jongsoo, Dr. Ryu Seunghoon, and Dr. Cho Jungho.

Established in 2018, the Graduate School's Department of Disaster Management at Dong-A University fosters practical talent through field-oriented education and research covering the entire disaster cycle (prevention-preparedness, response, and recovery). The department operates a curriculum centered on industry-academia-research cooperation, policy consulting, and field projects.

This development fund will be used for scholarships supporting student research, merit scholarships, and media promotion for the department, and is expected to help further solidify the educational and research ecosystem of the department.

Song Kangjik, Dean of the Graduate School, stated, "A self-sustaining donation culture is a driving force for Dong-A University's long-term growth," and added, "I hope this donation will serve as a foundation for nurturing talent to lead the field of disaster management."
