Busan National University Offers Free "Thousand Won Breakfast" Thanks to Anonymous Alumni Donation

Busan National University announced on June 16 that an anonymous alumni couple donated 20 million won to the university development fund, allowing the school to provide free "Thousand Won Breakfast" meals to current students during exam periods.

According to the university, the alumni couple expressed their hope that "at a time when students need to focus on their studies, a warm breakfast will give them strength," and added, "If given the opportunity, we would like to donate to the development fund every year."

The donation will be used over a total of three occasions: during the final exam period for the first semester of the 2025 academic year (June 16?20), as well as the midterm and final exam periods of the second semester. Previously, students paid 1,000 won for the meal, but during this exam period, it will be offered completely free of charge.

This free breakfast is an upgraded special meal valued at 7,000 won, compared to the regular meal worth 4,000 won, ensuring both nutrition and taste.

Busan National University also regularly operates the "Thousand Won Breakfast" program during semesters, with support from Busan City and the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

President Choi Jaewon stated, "The warm generosity shown by the anonymous alumni couple is deeply moving," and added, "We will honor the donors' intentions by running the program with care and striving to ensure that more students can benefit from it."
