Yeongju City Selected as Outstanding Institution for Wildfire Prevention Evaluation for Ninth Consecutive Year

Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has been selected as an outstanding institution for the ninth consecutive year in the "2025 Wildfire Prevention Evaluation" conducted by North Gyeongsang Province, in recognition of its achievements in wildfire prevention, response, and systematic disaster management activities.

This evaluation comprehensively assessed the overall wildfire management systems of 23 cities and counties in the province, including special policy initiatives, prevention and publicity achievements, and wildfire suppression response capabilities.

To prevent illegal burning, which is a major cause of wildfires, Yeongju City expanded agricultural by-product shredding operations and focused on raising public awareness through wildfire prevention campaigns in cooperation with related organizations.

As the risk of wildfires increased due to hot and dry weather, the city concentrated wildfire monitors in vulnerable areas and strengthened on-site prevention activities in line with the elevation of the national crisis alert to the "Caution" level. In addition, the city enhanced its initial response capabilities by leasing wildfire suppression helicopters and established a comprehensive response system through cooperation between the public and private sectors.

Encouraging voluntary participation by civic groups and establishing situation-specific response manuals were also positively evaluated as part of the city’s multi-layered disaster prevention strategy.
