A Total of 15 Models Achieve TSP or Higher Ratings
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 16th that three of its models?the Hyundai Avante (known as Elantra in overseas markets), Sonata, and Kia K4?have been awarded the "Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+)" rating in crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States.
This year, a total of 15 models from the group received TSP or higher ratings: 7 from Hyundai, 5 from Genesis, and 3 from Kia, making it the highest number among global automotive groups. Last year, Hyundai Motor Group had a total of 22 models with TSP or higher ratings?9 from Hyundai, 8 from Genesis, and 5 from Kia. With this achievement, Hyundai Motor Group has been recognized as the global automotive group with the most TSP or higher models for two consecutive years.
The IIHS awards the TSP+ rating to vehicles that demonstrate the highest level of safety in crash tests, and the TSP rating to those that achieve good results.
This year, the evaluation method was updated to include a new dummy representing a small-statured woman or a 12-year-old child in the rear seat during frontal crash tests. This change was made to better reflect injury types that rear-seat passengers are likely to sustain in real-world collisions. Additionally, while last year a "good" rating was sufficient to earn TSP+, the criteria have been made stricter this year.
A Hyundai Motor Group representative stated, "We are very proud that many of our models have achieved excellent results in the increasingly stringent IIHS crash tests every year," adding, "We will continue to strive to provide customers with vehicles that offer the highest level of global safety and quality through advanced research, design, and technology."
