A Total of 194 Medals Won
Including 71 Gold, 63 Silver, and 60 Bronze
Cheonan City in South Chungcheong Province announced on June 16 that it had claimed overall victory at the 77th South Chungcheong Provincial Sports Festival, which was held from June 12 to June 15.
The Provincial Sports Festival, held under the slogan "Passionate Cheers in Cheonan, All Eyes on South Chungcheong," saw more than 11,000 athletes from 15 cities and counties compete in various events.
Cheonan City won a total of 194 medals, including 71 gold, 63 silver, and 60 bronze, achieving an overall score of 41,575 points to secure the top spot.
Asan City and Seosan City followed in second and third place, respectively, while Dangjin City and Gongju City placed fourth and fifth. The Boryeong City team received the Harmony Award, and Cheongyang County was awarded the Exemplary Team Award.
Next year's Provincial Sports Festival will be held in Dangjin.
Han Namgyo, President of the Cheonan Sports Council, stated, "This overall victory was made possible by the athletes' sweat and dedication, the passion of the coaches, and the enthusiastic support of our citizens," adding, "We will do our utmost to further develop Cheonan into a healthy, sports-centered city for its citizens."
Kim Seokpil, Acting Mayor, also commented, "This year's Provincial Sports Festival was a stage where 2.2 million residents of South Chungcheong Province became the protagonists, once again affirming the values of inspiration and unity that sports can bring."
