"This Is My Mum, Please Throw Her Back"... Touching Story of a Glass Bottle Letter Found on the Beach

A Daughter Fulfills Her Late Mother's Dream by Sending Her Ashes to Sea in a Bottle
The Touching Story Spreads on Social Media, Moving Users Around the World

A single glass bottle found on a beach in the United Kingdom has touched the hearts of people around the world. Inside, a daughter's heartfelt message to her late mother was carefully preserved. On June 11 (local time), the BBC reported the story of a family who, while traveling on Skegness beach in eastern England on June 4, discovered a glass bottle that had been washed ashore and was half-buried in the sand. Inside the bottle was a handwritten note and a small amount of ashes. The note read, "This is my mum. She is traveling the world, so please throw her back into the sea. Thank you. - Cara from Oldham, England -"

The family of Kelly Sheridan, who discovered the glass bottle, filmed a video of themselves releasing the bottle back into the sea after reading the note's story and shared it on social media (SNS). They also added a warm message to their post: "Have a wonderful journey, Cara's mum." It was confirmed that the bottle had been thrown into the sea just a day earlier by a woman named Cara Melia.

Her mother, Wendy Chadwick, suddenly passed away from heart disease in February at the age of 50. She was a single mother who raised five children on her own. Chadwick had always dreamed of traveling the world. To fulfill their mother's lifelong wish, her children placed her ashes in a bottle and set it afloat from Skegness beach on June 3. However, the bottle washed back ashore in less than 24 hours and was found by the Sheridan family, who were visiting the same area. Their story quickly spread through social media, moving people across the UK and around the world.

In an interview with the BBC, Melia explained, "At first, I planned to scatter my mother's ashes on the beach, but then a friend gave me the idea, so I brought the ashes in a bottle when we came to Skegness on holiday." She added, "My mum never had the chance to travel because life got in the way. Ideally, no one would have found the bottle right away, and it would have reached a foreign shore, but it seems to have been washed back to the same area. I think my mum would have had a good laugh about it." She said that when she first heard the bottle had been found, she thought, "Surely she hasn't come back already?" and added, "I hope this time she goes a bit farther. I hope she's having a great time on a beach in Barbados or Spain."

She concluded by saying, "Mum, I miss you so much. Have a wonderful journey." Sheridan, who found the bottle, said, "At first, I thought the post on Facebook would be shared maybe five times, but I never imagined it would touch so many people. It was an honor to have found it." Melia also expressed her deep gratitude to Sheridan. Online users who read the story responded with comments such as, "I teared up reading this. I hope she continues her journey," "What a wonderful idea," and "I hope that bottle reaches world-famous beaches like those in Spain."
