Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on June 16 that it will host the 2nd Korea University Theater Festival, the nation’s largest residential theater festival, from July 8 to July 25.

Yongin City to Host 2nd Korea University Theater Festival from July 8 to 25

This festival, organized by Yongin City and hosted by the Yongin Cultural Foundation, will feature 12 university teams from across the country, each presenting original theatrical productions on stage.

The Korea University Theater Festival was first held last year as part of the 42nd Korea Theater Festival in Yongin. The event was launched to support the passion and experimental spirit of university theater students under the slogan "University Theater, Dreaming of a Renaissance." At that time, Mayor Lee Sangil of Yongin expressed his intention to continue the festival, leading to its second edition this year.

The event is especially notable for its "residential concept," which is being attempted for the first time nationwide. From July 8 to July 13, participants will stay for six days at the Yongin Forest Education Center and Yongin Natural Recreation Forest, where they will engage in collaborative creation, exchange, and networking programs.

Afterward, from July 16 to July 23, the participating teams will take turns performing on stage at four local venues: Yongin Poeun Art Hall, Keun Eoul Madang, Maru Hall, and Cheoin Hall. The festival will conclude with a closing performance and awards ceremony on July 25 at the Keun Eoul Madang in the Yongin Lifelong Learning Center.

Festival director Mayor Lee stated, "I hope that this stage, which university theater students from across the nation have prepared with great dedication, will deliver deep inspiration and emotion to our citizens. I ask for your interest and attendance so that we can once again share last year’s passion and excitement with the community."

All performances are free of charge. Reservations for performances can be made on the Yongin Cultural Foundation website starting July 16. For more details, please refer to the website or contact the foundation by phone.
