On June 15, North Gyeongsang Province announced that it has been selected for the "Senior Physician Employment Subsidy Program" promoted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Medical Center. As a result, the province will hire 16 senior physicians to work at seven institutions, including regional public hospitals and regional medical centers.
This program aims to encourage employment at local medical institutions and address the shortage of medical personnel in an aging society. It provides experienced physicians aged 60 or older with a monthly employment subsidy of 10 million won for six months.
The selected institutions for the support program?Pohang Medical Center, Gimcheon Medical Center, Andong Medical Center, Uljin County Medical Center, Sangju Red Cross Hospital, Yeongju Red Cross Hospital, and Dongguk University Gyeongju Hospital?may either newly hire senior physicians or support those already employed.
Senior physicians are medical professionals with a wealth of experience and expertise, having worked for more than 10 years at university hospitals or general hospital-level training hospitals, or having more than 20 years of clinical experience at general hospitals or lower-level institutions.
In particular, the inclusion of veteran doctors who have accumulated innovative medical skills and experience at university hospitals and general hospital-level training hospitals is expected to enhance the expertise of local medical institutions and provide on-site training opportunities for younger doctors, thereby generating positive effects.
In addition, North Gyeongsang Province is continuously striving to secure medical personnel and improve the quality of regional public healthcare services by promoting about 25 public health and medical projects annually, with a total budget of approximately 63.5 billion won. These include the "Medical Personnel Wage Support Project" and the "Regional Public Hospital Dispatched Medical Personnel Wage Support Project."
Yoo Jungkeun, Director of Welfare and Health at North Gyeongsang Province, stated, "The Senior Physician Employment Subsidy Program will be an important step in addressing the shortage of medical personnel in the region," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the regional healthcare system through various medical personnel support policies."
