On June 14, which was a holiday, a series of minor earthquakes occurred in Yeongdeok County, Gyeongbuk Province.

At approximately 12:22 p.m. on the same day, a magnitude 2.0 earthquake struck 21 kilometers north of Yeongdeok County, followed by a magnitude 2.3 earthquake at 1:58 p.m. 22 kilometers north of Yeongdeok County.

The depths of the epicenters were estimated to be 12 kilometers and 11 kilometers, respectively.

The Korea Meteorological Administration stated that seismic tremors were likely felt in areas near the epicenter.

The instrumental seismic intensity of the second earthquake was measured at level 3 in Yeongdeok County and level 2 in both Yeongyang County and Cheongsong County.

An instrumental seismic intensity of 3 means that people indoors, especially on the upper floors of buildings, can clearly feel the shaking, and parked cars may shake slightly. Level 2 indicates that only a few people in quiet conditions or on upper floors of buildings may notice the tremor.

Including the earthquakes that occurred on this day, there have been a total of 87 earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 or higher within a 50-kilometer radius of the epicenter of the second earthquake since 1978. Among these, the largest was a magnitude 3.8 earthquake that occurred on April 22, 2019.
