Emergency Countermeasure Meeting Held to Strengthen Response to Natural Disasters

Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jung Cheolwon) announced on the 14th that it held an emergency countermeasure meeting on the 13th to proactively respond to natural disasters such as heavy summer rains and typhoons, and reviewed its preparedness and response plans.

The meeting was organized ahead of the rainy season to reaffirm the disaster response system and to strengthen interdepartmental collaboration and on-site response capabilities. A total of 35 participants attended, including Governor Jung Cheolwon, the deputy governor, directors, heads of departments, and township leaders. Key departments and townships also participated via real-time video conference.

During the meeting, participants discussed: sharing the Korea Meteorological Administration's outlook on the rainy season and precipitation forecasts; reporting on pre-inspection status and response plans by department; delivering directives from the June 5 safety and security inspection meeting presided over by the President; measures to protect vulnerable groups and minimize casualties; and maintaining an emergency response system.

Governor Jung emphasized, "This year, we expect high precipitation and localized heavy downpours. Since most accidents show warning signs, pre-inspection and prevention are more important than anything else." He further instructed, "Mobilize all administrative resources to achieve zero casualties, including inspections of disaster-prone areas, real-time information sharing, and evacuation support."

In addition, specific on-site response plans were shared and their implementation was encouraged, including drainage and river maintenance, inspections of landslide-prone and aging facilities, reinforcement of structures against heavy rain, real-time resident notifications via social media and village broadcasts, and the operation of a 24-hour emergency response system.

The importance of interdepartmental cooperation and collaboration with related agencies was reaffirmed, and measures to strengthen execution, such as joint training and reorganization of communication networks when necessary, were also discussed.

Governor Jung stated, "Protecting the lives and safety of county residents is the most fundamental duty of the administration," and urged, "Always remain alert, reassess our readiness, and do your utmost to prevent any anxiety among residents in advance."
