On the afternoon of June 13, Gwangju City held the "2025 Intensive Safety Inspection Final Report Meeting" at the Chungmu Facility of City Hall, sharing the results of the intensive safety inspection that was carried out over 61 days.
This inspection took place from April 14 to June 13, with participation from Gwangju City, the five autonomous districts, affiliated public corporations and agencies, private experts, and civic organizations. The inspection targeted a total of 498 disaster-prone facilities.
The facilities inspected included aging buildings, multi-use facilities, bridges, and children's facilities. Among these, issues requiring repair, reinforcement, or corrective action were identified at 443 locations.
The main issues raised were the removal of obstructions from emergency evacuation routes, maintenance of drainage systems, and repair of cracks. Additionally, the parking lot of an apartment complex in Kumhodong was designated for a detailed safety inspection.
To enhance the effectiveness of the inspection, advanced equipment such as drones, thermal imaging cameras, and multi-gas detectors was used for precise diagnostics at 404 sites, accounting for 81% of the total. The city also actively operated the Citizen Safety Monitoring Group and the Resident Application System to encourage voluntary citizen participation.
Mayor Kang Gijeong stated, "This inspection represents a field-oriented safety management model created collaboratively by citizens, experts, and the administration. We will thoroughly address the identified issues through follow-up measures and focus Gwangju City's capabilities on protecting the lives and property of our citizens."
Meanwhile, the city plans to transparently disclose the inspection results to the public through the "Integrated Safety Information Disclosure System" and will continue to monitor the implementation of follow-up actions.
