10 Rain-Related Incidents Reported in Gwangju and Jeonnam
No Human Casualties
Heavy rain has continued for the second consecutive day in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, resulting in a series of rain-related damages.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on June 14, cumulative rainfall from the previous day until 5 a.m. on this day reached 150 mm in Sangmu Base, Jangseong; 136.5 mm in Jangsan Island, Shinan; 127.1 mm in Anma Island, Yeonggwang; 123 mm in Hampyeong; 116.5 mm in Muan; 115 mm in Dolsan, Yeosu; 108.4 mm in Mokpo; 105.7 mm in Heuksan Island; and 79.5 mm at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.
Heavy rain continued for the second day in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, with cumulative rainfall reaching 150mm in Jangseong. In Hampyeong, five people were injured in a chain collision on the wet road, and a total of 10 rain-related damages, including fallen trees and flooded roads, were reported in Gwangju and Jeonnam. Currently, a heavy rain advisory is in effect for all areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam except for Gokseong, Gurye, and Hwasun. Heavy rain of around 20 mm per hour, accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning, is expected to stop during the morning. Additional rainfall of up to 60 mm is forecast for the southern coast of Jeonnam starting from the afternoon of June 15.
Rain-related damages also occurred overnight. At around 8:15 p.m. the previous day, three vehicles skidded on the wet road and collided in a chain accident on the Seohaean Expressway toward Mokpo in Hampyeong County, Jeonnam. Five people were injured in this accident and transported to the hospital; none of the injuries are reported to be life-threatening.
In addition, two cases of damage, including fallen trees, were reported in Gwangju, and eight cases, including flooded roads, were reported in Jeonnam. No casualties have been reported.
An official from the Gwangju Meteorological Administration stated, "Visibility is low and roads are slippery in areas where rain is falling," and advised, "Please pay special attention to traffic safety."
