Mayor Shin Sangjin of Seongnam announced the major policies and project plans currently being promoted by Seongnam City through a comprehensive response to city administration questions at the 2nd plenary session of the 1st regular meeting of the Seongnam City Council held on the 13th.

First, regarding the "progress on attracting and establishing Bundang Science High School," Mayor Shin explained, "Aiming to open the school in March 2027, we officially requested a 40% priority admission quota for students from the Seongnam area from the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education in March, becoming the first local government to do so."
He added, "Since the Office of Education is also reviewing this positively, we will do our utmost to ensure that outstanding students from Seongnam are selected for the science high school as much as possible."
Regarding the creation of a marriage-friendly city, Mayor Shin stated, "Through 'Solomon's Choice,' which provides natural opportunities for single young men and women to meet, we are contributing to spreading a positive perception of marriage. We are also preparing to offer the city hall as a wedding venue and to operate public wedding halls using parks and other public spaces."
He continued, "We will conduct 'future education to improve awareness of low birth rates' for elementary, middle, and high school students, and pilot 'on-site parent education' for daycare centers, so that children can establish sound values regarding marriage and family."
Regarding the Baekhyeon MICE urban development project, he said, "We plan to begin construction in March 2026," and added, "We will closely cooperate with the project operator and promote the project in a fair and transparent manner."
On fostering the next-generation system semiconductor industry, he explained, "We are actively promoting the creation of a system semiconductor cluster through various projects, including establishing a platform for nurturing specialized talent at each stage of future growth, building the Pangyo System Semiconductor Research Center, and operating an alliance between demand and supply companies."
Regarding the modernization project for Seongho Market, he stated, "The project is being promoted through a small-scale redevelopment method, with the goal of starting construction in the second half of 2026 and completing it by 2029. We will do our best to expedite the modernization project so that Seongho Market merchants can return to their original place of business as soon as possible."
Finally, Mayor Shin Sangjin said, "Together with over 3,400 public officials, I will further strengthen communication and cooperation with the city council to realize 'Seongnam, a city of hope for advanced technology and innovation,' and will do my utmost to create a better future for Seongnam City and improve the quality of life for our citizens."
