Singapore Court Sentences Cabin Crew Chief to Four Weeks in Prison
A cabin crew chief from a South Korean airline has been sentenced to prison by a local court in Singapore for illegally filming a subordinate crew member's body in the destination city.
According to Singapore's state-run Channel NewsAsia (CNA) and the British daily The Independent on June 13, the Singaporean court sentenced the 37-year-old Korean cabin crew chief, identified as A, to four weeks in prison on June 11 (local time).
A was accused of secretly installing a small camera in the bathroom of a female subordinate's hotel room and filming her body after arriving in Singapore on April 27 and staying at a downtown hotel with a colleague.
Investigations revealed that the victim had invited A and other crew members to her room for a meal, and A took this opportunity to place the camera in the bathroom, hiding it under a towel.
The victim later discovered the camera, which was powered on, while drying her hands. She reported the incident to the police through a hotel staff member, and A was identified as the perpetrator.
The CNA reported that A returned to Korea the day after the crime but was arrested upon returning to Singapore on May 16 in response to a summons from local police.
The Singaporean prosecution stated, "The victim regarded the defendant as a mentor, trusted, and respected him, which made the crime particularly traumatic for her." According to the prosecution, the victim received psychiatric treatment in Korea and took medication for depression, anxiety, anger, and insomnia.
A admitted to the charges and has reportedly been removed from duty.
