An incident has been confirmed in which a man, believed to be a civilian, broke through barbed wire and entered a military base in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province. Although there were no indications that he approached the ammunition depot or that any ammunition was missing, authorities are currently tracking the suspect's movements together with the police.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other sources on June 13, at approximately 7:30 a.m. that day, an unidentified man was found to have damaged the outer barbed wire and entered the premises of an ammunition battalion in Gwangmyeong. After the military identified the unauthorized entry through CCTV and issued a warning broadcast, the man quickly disappeared from sight.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff believe the suspect fled the base after being startled by the warning broadcast. Based on CCTV footage showing the suspect foraging for wild herbs near the base, the military assesses that the likelihood of an anti-state motive is low.

The damaged outer barbed wire is located about 250 meters from the ammunition depot, and there is no evidence that the suspect approached the depot or that any ammunition is missing. The military and police are jointly tracking the suspect's movements.

Meanwhile, at 11:52 a.m. the same day, the city of Gwangmyeong issued a disaster alert message asking residents to report any sightings of suspicious individuals to the nearest police station, as there had been indications of an intrusion into a military facility.

The city of Gwangmyeong reported that the suspect was wearing a gray cap, a navy short-sleeved T-shirt, digital-pattern arm sleeves, black long pants, and was carrying an eco bag.
