Laying the Foundation for Distribution of Emerging Creators' IP

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on June 13 that they have selected 130 projects for production support, aimed at strengthening the international competitiveness of the broadcasting and video content industry. The support will be tailored to each stage of the entire production process, from planning and production to post-production work such as computer graphics (CG) and visual effects (VFX).

The Korea Creative Content Agency will provide up to 2 billion KRW for selected OTT-specialized content, up to 500 million KRW for broadcasting and video content, and up to 800 million KRW for post-production content. For short-form OTT-specialized content, newly established to meet the demand for shorter videos, up to 100 million KRW will be provided, along with the opportunity to be streamed on Watcha. A representative from the agency stated, "We expect this will contribute to diversifying content distribution structures and advancing the domestic OTT ecosystem."

Previously supported projects have already achieved impressive results. In the OTT-specialized content category, "More Beautiful Than Heaven" ranked ninth in the non-English category on Netflix last month, and "Campus War" took first place among popular titles on Coupang Play. In the second half of the year, a new lineup will follow, including "Chef of the Tyrant," "Dear X," "Yumi's Cells" Season 3, "Second Signal," "Shaman: Akguijeon," "Shooting Star" Season 2, and "Sing in Trip Reality Song Camp."

Among broadcasting and video content, "My Perfect Secretary" and "Mrs. Okssi's Story" achieved peak viewership ratings of 14% and 12%, respectively. The currently airing "Labor Attorney Noh Mujin" is also drawing attention for its differentiated content. The international co-production supported project "Deep Dive in Korea: Song Ji-hyo's Haenyeo Adventure," a collaboration between JTBC and BBC, is also being recognized for conveying the cultural depth and appeal of K-content to global audiences.

The Korea Creative Content Agency also expects to see comparable achievements from its support program for emerging creators. This year, 15 projects have been selected for support, with a total funding of 2 billion KRW. The program has been reorganized from a focus on single-episode dramas to a system that covers both medium- and short-form works, providing tailored support at each stage of creation. A representative from the agency stated, "The works are scheduled to be released on major OTT platforms within the year," and added, "We are laying the groundwork for the actual distribution of intellectual property (IP) created by emerging creators."

Meanwhile, on June 11, the Korea Creative Content Agency held a training session for approximately 300 project participants at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The session covered practical aspects of project execution, including accounting, contracts, use of the Nara Marketplace system, and prevention of improper payments. The agency also provided guidance on fair partnership-related systems and the use of standard contracts. A representative stated, "We will continue to build a sustainable broadcasting and video production environment centered on creators and foster an ecosystem where investment, distribution, and co-production are organically connected."
