According to the agency, tests were conducted on 17 types of beauty adhesives for nails (8 imported via overseas direct purchase and 9 manufactured or imported domestically), including examinations for prohibited substances. As a result, dichloromethane was detected in 3 types of overseas direct purchase products, while methyl methacrylate was found in 3 types of overseas direct purchase products and 4 types of domestically manufactured products. Dichloromethane is a colorless volatile liquid that can cause skin irritation and severe eye irritation. Methyl methacrylate is a chemical that can cause mild skin irritation in humans.

Beauty adhesives are regulated as safety-confirmed household chemical products under the Act on the Safety Management of Household Chemical Products and Biocides, and substances that cannot be contained in the products are specified according to relevant standards.

Based on the results of this investigation, the agency recommended blocking sales of the three overseas direct purchase products that violated domestic standards on overseas online platforms. The platform operators immediately took action to block sales.

In addition, among the four types of products manufactured by domestic companies, excluding one that was already subject to recall by the Ministry of Environment, the agency notified violations of laws and standards and requested corrective measures for three products?Enlian Brush-On Gel Glue, BB Nail Glue, and Donawa Nail Glue?manufactured by Wonjin Polymer and Daseong TNT. These companies immediately halted sales and decided to dispose of inventory and provide refunds for products sold.

The Korea Consumer Agency urged consumers who purchased these products to stop using them immediately and to promptly seek refunds or other remedies through each company's customer service center.
