Lee Appoints Special Prosecutors Recommended by Democratic Party and Rebuilding Korea Party on the Same Day
On the 12th, President Lee Jae Myung appointed Cho Eun Seok, former Audit Committee member, Min Jung Ki, former Chief Judge of the Seoul Central District Court, and Lee Myung Hyun, former Chief Prosecutor of the High Prosecutors' Office of the Ministry of National Defense Prosecutors' Corps, as the special prosecutors for the three major investigations (Internal Rebellion, Kim Gun Hee, and Chae Sang Byung), each recommended by the Democratic Party and the Rebuilding Korea Party.
On the 13th, the Democratic Party announced that it had received notification from the presidential office at around 11:06 p.m. the previous day regarding the appointment of former Audit Committee member Cho, former Chief Judge Min, and former Chief Prosecutor Lee as special prosecutors.

Cho Eun Seok, who was recommended by the Democratic Party, was appointed as the special prosecutor for the investigation into the 12·3 Martial Law Incident. He previously served as Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office and Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute under the Moon Jae In administration. Last year, following the suspension of duties of Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae Hae due to impeachment proceedings, Cho served as acting chairman in accordance with the Board of Audit and Inspection Act.
Min Jung Ki, who will lead the Kim Gun Hee Special Investigation into various allegations surrounding Kim Gun Hee, was also recommended by the Democratic Party. He served as Chief Judge of the Seoul Central District Court from 2018 to 2021 and previously held positions as Presiding Judge of the Seoul High Court, Chief Judge of the Seoul Eastern District Court, and Senior Presiding Judge of the Seoul High Court.
Lee Myung Hyun, who was recommended by the Rebuilding Korea Party, will head the special investigation into the death of Chae Sang Byung. Lee previously served as Director of the Legal Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as Chief Prosecutor of the High Prosecutors' Office of the Ministry of National Defense Prosecutors' Corps, among other positions as a military legal officer.
On the same day, the Democratic Party and the Rebuilding Korea Party each sent official documents to the presidential office recommending their respective candidates for the three special prosecutor positions. The Democratic Party recommended former Committee member Cho, former Chief Judge Min, and Lee Yoon Je, a law professor at Myongji University. The Rebuilding Korea Party recommended Han Dong Soo, former Chief of the Inspection Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Shim Jae Cheol, former Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, and former Chief Prosecutor Lee.
