This contest has been organized to encourage voluntary participation and interest from local residents, as well as to increase affection and anticipation for the Saeujeot Festival, which is Mapo's representative festival.

The Mapo Naru Saeujeot Festival, which began in 2008, is Mapo's flagship brand festival that recreates the prosperity of the old Mapo Naru in a modern way. Inspired by the tradition of Saeujeot being distributed nationwide through Mapo Naru, Saeujeot has become the festival's signature product and core content. Visitors, especially those preparing for kimchi-making season, continue to love the festival because they can purchase high-quality Saeujeot from famous regions across the country at reasonable prices.

Anyone interested in the Saeujeot Festival can participate in the contest, but each person may submit only one entry. The slogan should concisely capture the festival's image and characteristics and clearly reflect its purpose, and should be within approximately 15 characters (in either Korean, English, or both). Applicants can download the proposal form from the 'Notices' section on the Mapo-gu Office website and submit it via email to the person in charge (grace99@mapo.go.kr).

A total of 10 outstanding entries will be selected. The grand prize winner will have their slogan adopted as the official slogan and will receive a certificate and a cultural gift certificate worth 50,000 won. Two second prize winners (each receiving a 30,000 won gift certificate), three third prize winners (each receiving a 20,000 won gift certificate), and four honorable mention winners (each receiving a 5,000 won gift certificate) will also be awarded. The contest results will be announced on the Mapo-gu website on July 9.

Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "The Mapo Naru Saeujeot Festival is a source of pride for Mapo that has been passed down through generations and is a festival enjoyed by everyone." He added, "I hope this year’s festival will once again become a special event created together with the ideas and dedication of our residents."
