"Server Backups Completed, Recovery in Progress"
Event Admission System to Be Restored Starting June 12
Book and Other Services to Be Sequentially Restored by June 15
Compensation Plan Being Prepared
Yes24, the online bookstore that has been experiencing access disruptions for three consecutive days due to a ransomware hacking incident, announced that it plans to sequentially restore its services, starting with the event admission system on June 12 and completing the process by June 15.
On June 11, Yes24 stated in an official announcement that it will begin restoring the on-site event admission processing system (used for reservation verification) on June 12, and will sequentially recover other services at one- to two-day intervals. The company aims to complete the full restoration by June 15.
A compensation plan is also being prepared. A Yes24 representative said, "We are currently preparing compensation plans for customers and partner companies who have experienced inconvenience. We will provide detailed compensation information for each group, both through public announcements and individual notifications. We will further strengthen our security inspections and system management protocols to prevent similar incidents from recurring, and will take every precautionary measure. Once again, we sincerely apologize."
Additionally, the company reiterated that there has been no leakage of any personal information as a result of the hacking. Yes24 stated, "According to the investigation so far, there has been no leakage or loss of any critical data, and all data remains securely preserved. Currently, Yes24's Chief Information Security Officer Kwon Minseok and related departments are working closely with KISA to analyze the cause and carry out restoration efforts. Server backups have been completed, and recovery is underway based on these backups."
Yes24 has been experiencing access disruptions since around 4 a.m. on June 9. The company reported the incident to KISA at around 1 p.m. on June 10, the following day, but faced criticism for informing users that the issue was due to "internal system maintenance" rather than disclosing the true cause. As of today, the fourth day, all services on the Yes24 website and app remain unavailable.
