President Lee Requests "Interest and Support for Over 100 Korean Companies"
Both Leaders "Expect to Expand Exchange and Cooperation in the Cultural Sector"
President Lee Jaemyung held his first phone call since taking office with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, and on the 4th described the final contract for the construction of the new Dukovany nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic as a cornerstone for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
On June 11, Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, briefed at the Yongsan presidential office, stating, "At around 4 p.m. today, President Lee had his first phone conversation with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, which lasted about 20 minutes." She explained that, on the occasion of the final contract for the new nuclear power plant, the two leaders "agreed to work closely together so that cooperation between the two countries can expand beyond nuclear power to become comprehensive cooperation encompassing advanced industries, infrastructure, energy, and various other fields."
Kang further stated, "President Lee expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Fiala for congratulating him on his inauguration, and noted that this year marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Czech Republic and the 10th anniversary of establishing a strategic partnership. He expressed his pleasure at the remarkable progress made in various fields between the two countries." She added, "President Lee also asked for Prime Minister Fiala's continued interest and support for the approximately 100 Korean companies operating in the Czech Republic that are contributing to close economic cooperation between the two nations."
The two leaders also assessed the expansion of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and expressed hope for increased cooperation in the cultural sector, according to Kang. She added, "The two leaders exchanged views on international affairs, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and agreed to continue efforts to respond to various geopolitical crises." She further explained, "President Lee expressed his hope that Prime Minister Fiala would visit Korea at a convenient time in the future, and Prime Minister Fiala expressed his appreciation for the invitation."
