A new technology has been developed that enables quick and easy diagnosis of battery conditions during regular inspections of electric vehicles.

Mintec, a company specializing in battery inspection and diagnostics (CEO Youngjin Hong), announced on June 11 that it officially launched the "Electric Vehicle Battery Rapid Diagnosis System" at the kickoff meeting for the "Safety Inspection and Remanufacturing Circulation System Safety Management Technology Development Project" held at Hotel Inter-Burgo EXCO in Daegu, hosted by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Until now, accurately diagnosing the condition of an electric vehicle battery required removing the battery pack from the vehicle and connecting it to an expensive charging and discharging device, which can cost hundreds of millions of won. This process takes anywhere from several hours to more than 24 hours and incurs costs of several million won.

The difficulty of battery diagnosis has led to the exclusion of battery inspection from electric vehicle inspection items, and has been an obstacle to the activation of the used electric vehicle market and the battery reuse market. In addition, maintenance shops have had no suitable alternatives for inspecting the condition or safety of electric vehicle batteries.

Mintec's "Electric Vehicle Battery Rapid Diagnosis System" uses electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to measure the internal state of the battery by connecting to the high-voltage terminal or fast-charging port of the electric vehicle, without removing the battery pack from the vehicle. By combining this with battery management system (BMS) data analysis, it can accurately diagnose key electrochemical states and safety indicators such as state of health (SOH), state of charge (SOC), state of power (SOP), and state of balance (SOB) within 10 minutes.

The company explained that this product incorporates Mintec's proprietary battery analysis techniques and diagnostic algorithms based on EIS, developed over the past 10 years.

By using Mintec's rapid diagnosis system, battery safety inspections can be conducted quickly and easily during regular vehicle inspections. In addition, general maintenance shops can check battery conditions at any time. With accurate and rapid battery diagnostics, the reliability of used electric vehicle transactions is expected to improve, and it is also anticipated to contribute to the activation of the electric vehicle battery circulation ecosystem, including the reuse and recycling of used batteries.

CEO Youngjin Hong stated, "Mintec's Electric Vehicle Battery Rapid Diagnosis System will present an innovative paradigm for electric vehicle battery inspection methods," and added, "We expect this product to create broad demand in the global electric vehicle battery inspection equipment market and drive Mintec's growth."

This product was selected as a winner in the equipment and automation category at the "InterBattery Awards 2025" held in February.
