Recently, the use of nicotine-like products, including zero-nicotine liquid e-cigarettes, has been spreading, drawing attention to concerns over the safety of these products and regulatory loopholes. Some products sold as zero-nicotine liquids have been found to contain methyl nicotine or solid-type nicotine, contrary to their labeling, fueling concerns about health risks and the illegal distribution of such products.
This is why the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has been advising since last year that, although some products are advertised as zero-nicotine, many actually use unverified nicotine analogs such as methyl nicotine, and consumers should check the safety of these products before use.
According to the industry and related sources on June 11, methyl nicotine is a nicotine analog produced through illegal synthesis, and is known to be more addictive and toxic than conventional nicotine. Inhalation can cause severe side effects such as central nervous system disorders and cardiovascular diseases. There are also concerns that unclear labeling of product ingredients may leave consumers exposed without protection.
Solid-type nicotine can also generate harmful substances during inhalation, and some experts have raised concerns about its potential carcinogenicity. Nevertheless, many of these products are distributed on the market without legal verification under names such as "next-generation smoking devices," highlighting the need for stronger regulatory oversight and the development of safer alternatives.
Amid these issues, a smoking habit improvement aid called "Endpuff," which contains no nicotine at all, is gaining attention as an alternative that offers both safety and public benefit.
Endpuff, developed by HR Medical and recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as a "smoking habit improvement aid," is a zero-nicotine smoking cessation aid classified as a quasi-drug. It is designed to help smokers maintain familiar behavioral patterns without containing any nicotine or tar. By analyzing various aspects of smoking behavior?such as the act of holding something in the hand, the sensation of having something in the mouth, and the psychological comfort provided by a menthol scent?Endpuff enables users to replace the act of smoking itself without nicotine.
In particular, while most existing smoking cessation aids work by gradually reducing nicotine intake, Endpuff eliminates nicotine from the outset, thereby dismantling the addiction structure itself and increasing the likelihood of long-term cessation. For this reason, it is being recognized as a new option among smoking cessation aids.
A representative from HR Medical explained, "Unlike nicotine-like products, which are controversial due to their potential harm, Endpuff was developed from the perspective that it is necessary to scientifically analyze the psychological and sensory factors of smoking behavior and replace them in a harmless way. As a zero-nicotine product, it completely blocks addiction and health risks at the source, and it offers a new solution for changing the behavioral habit of smoking in order to quit."
HR Medical is conducting smoking habit improvement campaigns using Endpuff at universities and companies. The company is also working to create a sustainable smoking cessation ecosystem through the production of online cessation content, expert counseling systems, and the operation of user communities.
