"Summer Vacation with Books"... Seocho District to Host "Bookcance" on June 14

Seocho Book Street...
A Variety of Experiences Await

Seocho District in Seoul will transform a 510-meter stretch of Banpo-daero, from the National Library of Korea to Seoraegol Park, into an urban healing vacation spot for the "June Early Bookcance" event, which will take place on June 14 starting at 1 p.m.

This event is the second reading culture festival to be held this year at Seocho Book Street. Following April's "Booknic," it is designed with the concept of taking an early summer vacation with books.

At the stairs plaza of the National Library of Korea, a "Book Playground" will be set up where visitors can enjoy activities such as book fishing, giant block stacking, and cup stacking. There will also be a "Bookcance Experience Booth" filled with hands-on activities such as making fans and candy bracelets. A variety of performances for the whole family, including circus acts, bubble shows, cotton candy shows, and balloon shows, are also scheduled.

The "Traveling Library," which was introduced for the first time at the April Book Lunch, will be in full operation at this Bookcance. The "Traveling Library" is a mobile library that travels throughout the district, and on this day, it will be stationed at Seoraegol Park, offering a reading journey centered around picture books.

New reading culture experiences that combine books with music, coffee, and crafts will also be available. At Choi Inah Bookstore, there will be a fairy tale book concert featuring a performance by the saxophone ensemble S-Suite. Other activities include a "Book & Coffee Pairing" in collaboration with Nespresso, making wool felt crafts themed on animals from books, and a stamp art experience hosted by the independent bookstore Cooldiga.

In addition, programs that have been popular since last year will continue, including the "Seoripul Reading Golden Bell" quiz for 130 first- and second-grade elementary school students, the "Seocho Book Payback" program where residents who purchase books at local bookstores can receive a full refund if they return the books within three weeks, and the "5,000-Book Seoripul Book Market," where those who follow the Seocho Book Street SNS account can choose and take home a book. This year, around 1,000 children's books donated by the Dongwon Foundation for Youth will also be available.

Seocho District Mayor Jeon Sungsoo stated, "Seocho Book Street is a space created collaboratively by the district, libraries, major bookstores, local bookstores, independent bookstores, and publishers to enrich the reading culture of our residents. I hope that at the 'June Early Bookcance' held here, families will enjoy a fulfilling summer vacation through a variety of reading experiences."
