The Chungnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services announced on June 11 that root mites (soil pests) have recently been found in Liriope platyphylla cultivation farms, and urged for early monitoring and prompt control measures.

Root mites are major pests that mainly parasitize underground parts such as the roots and rhizomes of Liriope platyphylla, leading to reduced crop growth and yield.

For effective control, it is important to select healthy seedlings and avoid cultivating on the same field repeatedly. In the early stages of infestation, preventive management using registered pesticides (dimethoate emulsion) through drenching or soil treatment is effective.

Since early symptoms of infestation are not clear, it is easy to miss the optimal timing for control. Therefore, regular field inspections and prompt application of pesticides are crucial.

An official from the Goji Research Center at the Chungnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services stated, "Farmers should frequently check for damage in their fields and immediately implement control measures using registered pesticides upon detection. We plan to strengthen monitoring and provide more consulting on pest control for Liriope platyphylla cultivation farms."
