Megastudy Education Signs MOU with Korea University Press Association for 'meBOOK'

The Korea University Press Association (Chairman Shin Sunho) and Megastudy Education (CEO Son Sungeun) announced on June 12 that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote the digitization of university textbooks and expand the digital learning environment.

The main goal of this agreement is to accelerate the conversion of various academic content, including major and general education textbooks, into e-books, thereby increasing the accessibility and usability of university educational materials. The two organizations will also jointly cooperate on establishing copyright protection and security systems to ensure the stable distribution of e-books, with the aim of creating a sustainable e-book ecosystem.

The collaboration will center around 'meBOOK,' Megastudy Education's specialized e-book textbook platform. 'meBOOK' currently features advanced security functions for its e-book content, such as dual encryption, blocking of screen capture and recording, and restrictions on file sharing. These measures are effectively preventing illegal distribution and protecting the rights of original authors. The Korea University Press Association is also working to strengthen security technologies and the distribution environment to ensure the reliability and long-term competitiveness of e-book distribution.

This agreement goes beyond simply distributing textbooks, placing a strong emphasis on improving the quality of learning through e-books. The 'meBOOK' platform differentiates itself from other e-book platforms by offering a variety of interactive learning features, such as access to related audio files, video lectures, and online tests with automatic grading, all while reading e-book content. This has drawn significant attention for its ability to create an environment that enhances learner engagement and learning effectiveness.

Shin Sunho, Chairman of the Korea University Press Association, stated, "This agreement is a case in which both the security and learning efficiency of university textbook e-books have been realized, and it will serve as a highly symbolic starting point for the digital transformation of the university publishing sector. We will continue to pursue various collaborations to build a sustainable content ecosystem in the future."

Kim Youngsun, Executive Director of Megastudy Education, commented, "'meBOOK' is a platform designed to enable learning with high-quality university textbooks in a safe and engaging way. Through this agreement, we aim to set a new standard for e-book learning in the domestic and international university textbook markets."

Going forward, the two organizations plan to work together on a range of initiatives, including expanding the distribution and use of university textbooks as e-books, advancing Korean-language learning e-books into the global market, and collaborating on research and development of e-book-based teaching and learning systems.

In particular, as a follow-up to this agreement, the organizations plan to immediately begin building a global distribution system for Korean-language learning textbooks from domestic universities, following the university textbook e-book project that is currently in its final stages of preparation. Attention is focused on whether this collaboration will not only strengthen the digital competitiveness of domestic university publishing, but also lead to the globalization of K-education content.
