The event began with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by the first part commemorative ceremony and the second part cultural performance titled "Sing, 1987!" Various side events were also held to encourage intergenerational empathy and participation, including a photo exhibition of democratization organizations, local group booth experiences, and the sharing of June rice balls.

Jang Geumyong, acting mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "The freedom, democracy, and rights we enjoy today are the result of the courage and sacrifice of the young people who did not remain silent in the face of truth and the citizens who stood up against injustice 38 years ago."
