Stronger Preference for Reasonable Prices and Small-Sized Products
Sinbi Peach and Shine Muscat to Be Released in Succession
On June 11, convenience store chain Seven Eleven announced that it will introduce regional seasonal specialty fruits for the summer season.
Last week, Seven Eleven launched two new products: "Jincheon Apple Watermelon (1kg)" and "Naju Jujube Cherry Tomato" in two sizes (200g, 500g). The Jincheon Apple Watermelon is a unique summer fruit with a thinner rind than regular watermelons, making it easy to peel and eat like an apple. It is about one-fourth the size of a regular watermelon, has a high sugar content, and is popular as a watermelon tailored for one- or two-person households due to its small size. The Naju Jujube Cherry Tomato is characterized by its firmer flesh compared to regular tomatoes and a mild yet strong sweetness.
Next week, the company will introduce three types of Jeju-grown greenhouse tangerines (3 pieces, 5 pieces, 500g), known for their high sugar content and quality as the harvest season begins in earnest. At the end of this month, Seven Eleven also plans to offer "Cheongdo Sinbi Peach," a premium fruit from Cheongdo, North Gyeongsang Province, which is available only for a limited time. The Sinbi Peach is a type of nectarine that looks like a nectarine on the outside but has the flesh of a white peach. Due to its low yield, it is only available for about a month during the summer season. In addition, Seven Eleven plans to sequentially launch other representative summer seasonal fruits next month, including nectarines, yellow peaches, and Shine Muscat grapes.
Seven Eleven has expanded its fruit offerings in response to increasing sales of fruits and vegetables, driven by the growing number of consumers seeking rational purchases. To meet this demand, Seven Eleven operates two fresh-specialized stores in major residential areas. At a product exhibition held in March, the company introduced a fresh-enhanced model corner to franchise owners nationwide. In April, Seven Eleven collaborated with Lotte Mart and Super to launch 15 types of fresh foods, including single-meal onions, convenient radishes, win-win apples, and bite-sized pork belly.
Jung Seungyeon, MD of Seven Eleven's Convenience Food Team, said, "Demand for fresh foods at convenience stores has been steadily increasing every year, and there is a clear preference for small-sized products at reasonable prices. Since convenience store fruits are easy to use as snacks at home or as simple desserts at work, customers will be able to conveniently enjoy seasonal summer fruits in their daily lives."
