Gyeonggi Province will conduct a joint inspection targeting motorcycle noise.
On June 11, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that it has designated the period from June 16 to June 27 as "Motorcycle Noise-Free Days" and will carry out joint inspections together with city and county governments, the police, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
Previously, in 2023, Gyeonggi Province became the first in the country to enact the "Gyeonggi Province Motorcycle Noise Management Ordinance." Based on this, in March of this year, the province established the "Gyeonggi Province Motorcycle Noise Management Plan (2025-2029)," which includes 12 key tasks across four areas for noise management.
This joint inspection is part of the noise management plan and will be led by Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with 31 cities and counties, the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. The inspections will be carried out over a two-week period through a working-level consultative body formed by these organizations.
The inspections will take place at 36 locations where noise complaints have been reported and where motorcycle traffic is frequent.
The inspections will check whether motorcycles comply with noise emission standards through noise measurements, and will also examine for illegal modifications such as the removal of mufflers or noise covers. In cooperation with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, a campaign to prevent motorcycle accidents will also be conducted simultaneously.
Park Daekeun, Director of Environmental Health and Safety at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We hope that this inspection will help alleviate some of the noise inconvenience experienced by residents. We will work to restore order in motorcycle operations and create a quieter living environment that residents can feel. We will continue inspections and guidance activities to create a noise-free urban environment."
