Goheung County to Open 'Naro Island Clean Seafood Festival' on June 13

Seafood Auction, Eel Catching Experience, and More

Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced on June 10 that the 8th Naro Island Clean Seafood Festival will be held over three days from June 13 to 15 at the Naro Island Mullyangjang area.

Naro Island is a historic fishing village that was once renowned for its mackerel fish market (Pasi, a temporary fish market formed during periods of large mackerel catches). Today, it is gaining attention as a hub for South Korea's aerospace industry.

This year's festival is organized by the Bongrae-myeon Festival Promotion Committee. A variety of programs will be offered so that visitors can fully enjoy the region's signature seafood against the backdrop of the early summer sea, when hydrangeas are in full bloom.

At the event, visitors can participate in hands-on programs such as the "Seafood Outing," where they can taste and purchase fresh seafood from Naro Island. Other activities include a surprise seafood auction, a shrimp peeling contest, and a bare-handed eel catching experience.

A rich lineup of cultural performances has also been prepared. Various shows spanning generations, such as a popera performance, a senior model fashion show, a reenactment of a traditional wedding, and an audience participation talk show called "I Am a Talent," are expected to further heighten the festival atmosphere.

In addition, local specialties such as rice, citron, and stone seaweed will be available at agricultural and seafood product sales booths, and local food restaurants will offer visitors a taste of Goheung's unique flavors and charm.

An official from the county commented, "This festival will be an opportunity to widely promote not only Naro Island's seafood, but also Goheung's future competitiveness, thanks to its pristine natural scenery and the presence of the space center. We hope families, friends, and couples will visit and experience the vibrant charm of the fishing village."
